Plan de Dieu Côtes du Rhône 2019 - Domaine Saint Pierre

Description
We could not have come up with this name Plan de Dieu more beautifully ourselves. An area of 371 hectares around four communes had long belonged to the AOC Côtes du Rhône-Villages. One of those communes is Violès and is the hometown of 'our' Jean-François Fauque. A few harvests ago, the naming of this part of the Côtes du Rhône region was changed. From 2005, this area was officially allowed to use the name Côtes du Rhône-Villages Plan de Dieu, which literally means 'the Plan or Domain of God'. Now it just so happens -and coincidence does not exist- that Jean-François' winery has been called Domaine Saint-Pierre for centuries. Which means nothing less than 'Domain of Saint Peter', the founder of the Catholic Church and also the first pope. Could it be more beautiful? The keeper of the church in the middle of the Domain of God. With this, we immediately have the explanation why Jean-François Fauque makes those divine wines. The Grenache, Syrah and Mouvédre grapes (60-20-20%) make these deep red/purple wine a topper. The scent of strawberries and blackcurrants gives jammy notes. A soft, characterful and divine wine. Delicious with hearty food and a little game. Pour at 16 to 18 degrees.
