Saumur Blanc Clos Oratoriens 2014 - Château de Chaintres
For the Saumur Blanc Clos Oratoriens, winemaker Elisabeth de Tigny uses the Chenin grape from which she makes a wine from over 30-year-old vines by pressing the whole bunches directly. Fermentation for about 3 months and over a year on wood aged in oak barrels makes a solid wine. Golden in the glass and a nose of white fruit, green apples and almonds. The Saumur Blanc Clos Oratoriens is nicely spicy and full of flavor. Mineral and cedar come through in a nicely balanced wine. Delicious with full-flavored sauces with fish dishes, lobster and clams or with grilled lamb, with Gouda cheese or a nice dish with turnips and mushrooms. Do not serve colder than 10 degrees.
