'Sablet' Côtes du Rhône-Villages 2019 - Domaine Saint Pierre
A Côtes du Rhône-Villages with the suffix 'Sablet' refers to the village of Sablet which lies north of Gigondas against the western edge of Mont Ventoux. The wine is made from the grape varieties Grenache (50%), Syrah (25%) and Mourvèdre (25%). The vines are between 10 and 50 years old. The soil has a lot of red clay and calcareous gravel. Poor soil where the vines have to struggle to score water and bear fruit. Small yields that are completely destemmed after harvest. Vinification takes place in the blend of these grapes. Aged for a year in large oak barrels of 4000 to 6000 liters. Ruby red wine with a nose of pitch black fruit. Firm wine with nice thick black berries on the palate, minerality, bay leaf, mocha, slightly bitter chocolate and fine tannins. Real food wine that may be served at 16-17 degrees! Does well with all kinds of red meat or game and a piece of spicy Gouda cheese. Also tastes great with a Greek salad or a curry with red lentils.
