Crèmant d'Alsace Cuvèe Confidentielle - Domaine Gruss
André Gruss has a wealth of experience in making Crèmants d'Alsace. This Crèmant d'Alsace Cuvèe Confidentielle Extra Brut is yet another textbook example of fine artisan wine making. On the fields of the Gruss family around Eguisheim, in addition to the grape varieties that are standard in Alsace, there is also a plot with Chardonnay in the backyard. This is a bit of an oddity here. This Crèmant d'Alsace Cuvèe Confidentielle is therefore special and composed of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Blanc. Matured for 30 months in large oak barrels. This results in a rich bouquet with spiciness, minerals and a flinty taste. In the mouth tight dry with some citrus, nut bread and some smokiness. A razor-sharp wine that at 8-10 degrees combines beautifully with toast or pinchos with some fish, a poultry paté, a savory refined cake or oyster.
