Domaine des Coteaux des Travers - Robert Charavin - Rasteau
Domaine Coteaux des Travers has seen many generations of Charavin's. The vineyards and the craft of winemaking went from father to son. The literal translation of Coteaux des Travers is "the slope along which the rising sun glides. In 1931 Robert Charavin's grandfather began cultivating the vineyards and from 1975 began bottling their produced wines himself.
The estate has 11 hectares in Rasteau and 4 hectares in Cairanne. In Rasteau, the soil is mostly firm clay and the fields face full sun on the south side. The vineyard in Cairanne has a varied soil composition with sand and clay. Since 2010, the domain has been producing organic wines and is certified. In addition, they have started biodynamic cultivation. Harvesting is done by hand and then the grapes are carefully sorted by ten (!) men at the "la table de trie". Fermentation takes place in wooden and concrete vats for four weeks. Every day, the yeast cake covering the must is broken to mix again with the mass. Thus, maturation produces beautiful wines.
