Clos de l'Abbaye

Clos de l'Abbaye - Bourgeuil
Clos de l'Abbaye - Bourgeuil

The fields of Clos de l'Abbaye surround the Abbey of the Benedictines of Bourgueil where there have been vineyards since the eleventh century. More recently, the nuns of the St. Martin's Congregation installed in this abbey operated this Clos until 1974.
Michel Lorieux and Jean Baptiste Thouet took over the vineyard in the eponymous town of Bourgueil in 1975. They have been working organically since 1998. Cabernet Franc is of course ubiquitous and makes for hearty meaty eating wines, fruit, aromas and spice. And that is certainly true of the Bourgueil wines made at Clos de l'Abbaye. Finally in 2018, Michel Lorieux's son, Jèrèmy and his wife Faustine took over the vineyard to continue over 40 years of family work.
