In 1675, the fathers took over the Château de Chaintres in Saumur. They were looking for a little peace and quiet during all the religious disputes that were going on everywhere. The Oratorian Fathers preferred to devote themselves to more rustic tasks that suited the terroir of the land of Château Chaintres. And that happened to be very suitable for growing wine! They built a 2-kilometre wall around the estate to protect it. These enclosed fields provided a better structure for the top vineyards.

The white tuff walls reflect the light and heat back onto the grapes. This "clos", locally called "cheintre", became the property of the Clergé de Saumur in 1792, then of the knights and viscounts, before becoming the property of the de Tigny family in 1935. Madame de Tigny loses her husband in 1945 (deportation) but this American works hard on the grapes and the wine (quality). Today, Elisabeth de Tigny Mourot combines these family standards!
